Claudia is one of the eight main characters in Romancing SaGa and its remake Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song. She was born in Mazewood and can be found in Melvir, Aurefont and Altours.
Profile[edit]
Appearance[edit]
In her default design, Claudia has long brown hair and wears an orange and green combo dress, paired with a green vest featuring blue markings. Her forearms and calves are wrapped in multiple green fabric pieces, completing her forest-guardian appearance. This simple yet functional design suits her nature-based role.
In Minstrel Song, Claudia is seen sporting a green cap, a green dress with yellow markings, black shorts underneath, and large black boots, giving her a more adventurer-like appearance.
Personality[edit]
Claudia has a deep connection to nature, shaped by her upbringing in Mazewood under the care of Eule, the witch of the forest. Raised among the creatures of the forest, Claudia developed a strong sense of compassion, particularly for those she deems vulnerable. She is kind-hearted and deeply empathetic, which is evident in her willingness to assist others, like when she helps Gian fend off monsters despite the danger.
Her relationship with Eule is especially significant, as she views the witch as a mother figure. Even though she was told she was an orphan, Claudia’s bond with Eule remained unshakable. Eule’s teachings guided Claudia through her early life, and Claudia seems to hold a sense of duty to protect the forest and its creatures in return for the care she received. As the story progresses, Claudia’s journey becomes a search for her true identity, but her innate kindness and sense of loyalty persist throughout. Despite the revelations about her heritage, her connection to Eule remains a defining aspect of her character.
Story[edit]
Claudia, an orphan raised by Eule, the witch of the forest, spent her entire life in Mazewood, a secluded forest home to both creatures and her adoptive mother. Eule was the only other human there, and Claudia grew up surrounded by the forest's magical inhabitants, including Brau, the bear, and Sylvan, a wolf-like creature.
One day, Eule senses monsters near the entrance to the forest and sends Claudia, along with Brau and Sylvan, to investigate. Upon reaching the entrance, Claudia encounters Gian, an Imperial Knight of the Bafal Empire, who is under attack by monsters. Claudia helps him fend off the creatures. Gian thanks her for the assistance, though he is surprised by her name and the strange ring she wears. He remarks that Claudia seems "a little overdressed for the forest" and gives her a map of the Bafal Empire, inviting her to visit him at Elisabeth Palace if she ever finds herself in Melvir.
Upon returning to Mazewood and reporting to Eule, Claudia is met with disapproval for getting involved in someone else's troubles. However, Eule tells Claudia to use the map Gian gave her and explore the world. She also tells Claudia that she is free to travel but must return immediately if Eule ever needs her. Claudia agrees and sets off with Brau and Sylvan.
Claudia later meets Gian again at Elisabeth Palace, where he introduces her to Lord Neville. Lord Neville orders Gian to find Claudia a bodyguard, as he cannot personally look after her due to his obligations at court. Gian arranges for Claudia to stay at an inn and guards her through the night. The next day, Gian introduces her to Gray, whom he deems trustworthy to accompany her on her travels. Claudia reluctantly accepts the arrangement, and thus begins her journey with her new companions.
Warning! the following Paragraph contains Spoilers regarding Claudia's past.
At one point during her stay at an inn, Eule contacts Claudia, urging her to return to Mazewood. Upon her arrival, Eule reveals that she is dying. Before her time runs out, there is something important Eule must tell Claudia. Claudia is not an orphan, but actually the daughter of the Emperor of the Bafal Empire and the rightful heir to the throne. She was entrusted to Eule for protection from assassins, most likely sent by the ambitious Duke of Loban, who is married to the emperor’s sister.
With her final words, Eule tells Claudia to visit the giant tree at the center of the forest. As Claudia prepares to leave Mazewood, Brau and Sylvan hesitate. Though they were sent by Eule to protect her, they are creatures of the forest and now that Claudia no longer needs guarding, they stay behind. Claudia leaves Mazewood to continue her journey, this time without Brau and Sylvan.

Gameplay[edit]
Appearances[edit]
- Claudia's Scenario: Main character
- Other scenario: Playable character, recruitable from Melvir, Aurefont or Altours
Note: Recruiting Claudia unlocks Melvir, Aurefont and Mazewood. Unlocking her can be challenging, as the only easy way to make ventures between Melvir and Aurefont, is to recruit Gray, whom always shows up with Claudia anyway. There is an option to unlock Melvir by going from Rosalia to the Dry Lands, but that poses other problems.

Character-specific quests[edit]
Battle[edit]
True to her concept art, Claudia is the best with a bow in her hands. Her Dexterity increases frequently and her Agility growth ensures that she can act very quickly, while her other stats advance at an average pace. Her high Dexterity also allows her to dabble in Foilery, though her low HP and Vitality make her a poor choice for the front row.

- Story
“ | Guided by the stone of destiny, the guardian of the otherworldly forest. Deep within the forest of the otherworld, a figure holding a bow passed down from the Moon Goddess and accompanied by a silver wolf was occasionally spotted, rumored by the townsfolk as a mysterious beauty. Her foster parent is said to be the witch of the Lost Forest, a figure mentioned in legends, but she was not taught magic, and her origins remain unclear. Her dignified features and the coral ring sparkling on her finger hint at a noble birth, but Claudia herself seemed to be tormented by a deep inner conflict, resenting her fate. (運命石に導かれし異界の森の番人。異界の森の奥深くで月の女神伝来の弓を手に白銀の狼を連れた姿が時折目撃され、街の人々から謎の美女として噂されていた。育ての親は伝承に語られる迷いの森の魔女だが、魔術の伝授はされておらず出目も不明。気品のある顔立ちと指に煌めく珊瑚の指輪が高貴な生まれを感じさせるが、クローディア自身、己が何者なのかと苦悩し、運命を恨んでいたようだ。?) | „ |

Trivia[edit]
- Brau and Sylvan only join the party when Claudia is the main character. They join her at the beginning of the game and leave at the end of the Quest "Eule gives a hoot". While no other character can recruit them, Claudia can't dismiss them from her party. When the Minstrel asks who to dismiss from the Party and either Brau or Sylvan is chosen, the Minstrel will instead reply "It's good to have friends, isn't it!?"
- While Lord Neville forbids Gian to join Claudia on her journey, because of his duties, Claudia still can simply recruit Gian once she gains access to Elizabeth Palace.
- Many of the quests in the Bafal Empire give hints about Claudia's origin, but only during "Eule Gives a Hoot" is the truth revealed to Claudia. Even after learning about her origin though, Claudia will not mention it and other characters (such as Gian) will still act the same as before towards her, trying to keep the secret.
- The only way to trigger the quest "Eule gives a hoot" without Claudia being your main character is to sleep at any inn at or after ER9 with Claudia in your party. You will be given three choices to either accompany her, let her go or force her to stay. If you force her to stay she will leave the party regardless.
