SaGa Frontier 2 Character |
Nebelstern (ネーベルスタン?) is a character in SaGa Frontier 2. The legendary General Nebelstern of Wide has served the Marquis of Wide for years. When the new Marquis of Wide passes on to his young and naive son, Nibelstern wishes to guide him towards being a strong ruler, but his attitude leads the Young Marquis into feeling like everyone doesn't trust in his capabilities instead. He is initially weary of the Gustave XIII, seeing in the young boy a dangerous and reckless man not too dissimilar to himself in his younger days. He retires from service after Gustave XIII's conquest of Wide. A few years later, Cielmer manages to coax the general back into active service as supreme commander of Gustave's army. His numerous victories lead to Gustave's reign and strengthen it. Despite their initial misgivings, Gustave respected Nebelstern's ability and Nebelstern eventually saw the potential of Gustave, leading the two to form a strong relationship in their later years.
It is later revealed that in his youth, Nibelstern traveled the lands alone going on reckless adventures just to prove how capable he was. His travels eventually lead him to meet Master Cielmer and Narcisse who traveled with him and may have led to Nebelstern finally settling down and making a name for himself in Wide.

Gameplay[edit]
Nebelstern is a powerful fighter with overall good stats and high proficiency with Spear Weapon Arts as well as Tree and Beast Spell Arts. He comes with the Commander Role which works well with his shield. He has an excellent WP regeneration at 3 points but only gets a measly 1 point SP regeneration unless augmented by equipment. Surprisingly, his stat growth favors SP over more melee focused ones like HP and WP. Like several one scenario characters, he has abysmal HP growth and his WP growth is well below average, but he starts with higher than normal stats in a lot of areas despite no growth potential. Paradoxically, his SP growth is the second highest in the game only trailing behind Wil Knights and Ventarbre. His highest weapon growth is in spears, followed by Bows. His best magic skills are Wood and Beast. Despite having great SP growth and an aptitude for two elemental arts, Nebelstern can't actually spark any spell arts. The best advantage his potential SP growth can give you is in the use of Hybrid Arts since they consume SP exclusively and he starts with a high enough score in several elemental fields to make them potent if you've learned them in an earlier chapter with Kelvin, Cordelia, or possibly Rich.
Depending on how many Spear Arts the player has sparked by this point, Nebelstern will either be a powerful force to be reckoned with or may struggle in battle until properly leveled. His stats are overall very good but he's only available for one scenario and spends half of it solo, but he's more than capable and is one of the games better Spear focused warriors. His major drawbacks is his low capacity for Spell Arts and the general short time you have him.
In the war battle he participates in, he is easily the second strongest unit on the field only behind Gustave. He can easily kill an enemy unit on his own, which means he'll likely always come out as the victor in any skirmish his unit engages in.
For roles, it's honestly best to stick with his Commander role to take advantage of his shield.
