SaGa Frontier 2 Character |
Sargon (サルゴン?) is a character in SaGa Frontier 2. He is a faithful vassal to Fake Gustave. After defeating the monsters in his home village, Fake Gustave realizes Sargon's potential and appoints him to the elite Edelritter group of knights. Sargon serves Fake Gustave without revering him, as he simply lives in constant fear of his master's power.
He appears for the first time in "To Cast a Rainbow" as a teenager in search of adventure. He happily joins Rich and Diana alongside Eleanor. If the player chooses to level up Sargon's skills during his youth at this stage, he will become quite powerful when the "Edelritter" scenario becomes available (which is helpful considering Greta and Watts are not very powerful themselves).

Gameplay[edit]
Sargon is a fairly good fighter if average among the cast. He starts with high stats in Sword, Tree, Fire, Stone, and Tone but has some points in Martial Arts and the other two elements as well. Despite starting with 0 in his staff, it is actually his second best weapon with a growth rate slightly below sword. His best growth potential is in Sword and Staffs, while his best elemental growth is in Fire, Stone, Wood and Tone. He has fairly good potential to spark a number of offensive spells from the four elements he has high proficiency in. Sargon's biggest handicap is his ho-hum WP/SP regeneration. He gets two points for WP which is not terrible, but he needs to rely on his high WP growth to compensate for his low regen. Likewise, despite his strong affinity towards various elemental powers, his SP regen is only one point meaning he needs access to staffs and other weapons that can raise that potential.
As can be seen from above, Sargon is a mage warrior if equipped right. He's only playable for two scenarios but in the second, he's the most powerful character available as he's saddled with two generic soldiers with abysmal stats. It is thus highly recommended to prepare him in his starting chapter by raising his WP as much as possible and getting him good SP regen items and support spells. His best Roles should likely be offensive in nature.

Etymology[edit]
Sargon is a name from the Sumerian age and used in both the Akkadian and Assyrian dynasty. It roughly translates to ''The King is Legitimate'' and was used a by a few rulers within the region. Sargon is likely named after the historical Sargon of Akkad, or commonly known as Sargon the Great. He was the ruler of the Akkadian Empire, which is thought to be one of the first empires in human history. He could also be named after the Assyrian king Sargon I who was best known for refortifying the city of Assur which was the capital of the Assyrian Empire in his time.
Trivia[edit]
- Sargon is mentioned in Unlimited Saga during the Abandoned Castle quest in Zomar. In one of the castle towers, a notice can be found that says "Where did you go, Graha? - Knight Sargon". Finding out who wrote this was even part of the Hall of Valor contest.
- Despite becoming the Fire Elemental Lord for Fake Gustave, Sargon's best elemental affinity is actually Stone.
