Story[edit]

Prologue[edit]

Monika places great trust in Katarina, seeing as how she is her personal bodyguard. Mikhail places trust in her as the guardian of the Masquerade; a remnant of the Holy King given to the royal family of Loanne.

May your horse be swift and your path clear. I pray fortune delivers you safely to Lord Mikhail's camp, Milady.
~ Katarina wishing Monika a safe journey

Katarina is approached by Monika who tells her that she overheard Baron Godwin colluding with the chancellor to overthrow her brother, the Marquis. Monika instructs Katarina to stay behind in Loanne Castle and buy her some time while she goes to find her brother. After the two bid each other their goodbyes, Katarina watches Monika leave the castle, pondering over the fate of their land.

After Monika's departure, Katarina decides to find a stand-in for Monika. She finds a maid and instructs her to wear Monika's nightgown and sleep her in bed, much to the maid's consternation. Katarina tells her there's no time and the maid promptly wears the nightgown and gets into Monika's bed. Shortly after, she exits the room and is visited by the Chancellor who inquires about Monika's condition. Katarina tells him that Monika's fatigued and the Chancellor decies to give Monika some time to rest and bades her farewell. Katarina makes her preparations to ensure that her eventual arrest goes smoothly, hiding her equipment in Monika's dresser and hiding a jail key near an empty prison cell.

After some time, she is confronted by the Chancellor and some palace guards. She questions the intentions of the Chancellor who tells her that the castle is now under Baron Godwin's rule. She tells the Chancellor that she can best his forces although the Chancellor retorts with Monika's safety being in peril. Katarina backs down and tells the Chancellor that she will surrender only if Monika's safety is assured. The Chancellor agrees to her conditions and has Katarina arrested and thrown into the dungeon. While in the dungeon, Katarina bides her time until Mikhail's forces come to liberate the castle.

After some time has passed, Katarina finds the castle empty and makes her escape from her cell with the key she hid prior. She meets up with Mikhail who introduces her to Khalid, otherwise known as Tornado. They join forces to defeat Baron Godwin. However, upon entering the throne room, they are greeted by a demon sitting on the throne. The demon tells them that Baron Godwin had outlived his usefulness. It continues to mention that the throne which had been crafted for Ferdinand, the previous emperor, fits so rightly on its bottom. The three set out to dispatch the demon.

Upon defeating the demon, Mikhail and Monika reward Khalid, Thomas, Julian, Ellen and Sarah for their bravery. They also praise Katarina for following her duty. Several days later, Katarina muses about in the castle's courtyard. She senses a presence that turns out to be Mikhail. He approaches her and takes away her breath. He thanks her for her efforts and guides her into a rendezvous. Following their respite together, Mikhail starts musing about the Masquerade. Before Katarina realizes it, Mikhail quickly backs away with the Masquerade in tow, revealing himself to be an imposter. He flees with the Masquerade and leaves a distressed Katarina on the ground.

Katarina approaches Mikhail in the throne room and Monika notices that she has cut her hair. Katarina states that the Masquerade was stolen and that she will leave the kingdom to find it. Mikhail understands her resolve and exiles her from Loanne until she returns with the Masquerade. Monika notes that the punishment does not fit the crime however Katarina decides to push onwards with the exile. Mikhail asks Katarina who had stolen the Masquerade but she is wont to say about the matter. Katarina departs from Loanne to search for the Holy sword.

During the attempted Coup-d'etat by Baron Godwin, Katarina sent Monica away to protect her as Godwin was to use her as bait to lure Mikhail into a trap. Katarina is captured during the Coup and is able to escape the prison by placing the Jailer's key in an empty cell beforehand, presuming that they will throw her in there since the other cells are occupied. After she escapes she meets up with Harid and Mikhail in the middle of the reclamation of the castle and helps rout out the remainder of the monsters infesting it.

Several Days after the ordeal, Mikhail meets Katarina while she is outside, saying that he was concerned for her as a woman, causing her to let down her guard and give the Masquerade to Mikhail. It turns out that it was an imposter posing as Mikhail and tricks Katarina into handing over the Masquerade. The next day, she speaks with Mikhail about her failings, vows to find the Masquerade, and bring it back. However by taking this quest she must be exiled from Roanne until she completes it.
