Wuhan
Wuhan (?) (or Ahmed in the DDS translation) is a minor NPC character in Romancing SaGa and it's remake, Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song. He is the ruler or 'Kjaraht Potentate', of South Estamir, and has a liking for young maidens, often having them kidnapped and hidden in his secret chambers.
Profile[edit]
Appearance[edit]
In the original game, Wuhan wears a standard middle eastern set of clothing, with mostly yellow colours. He also has a head cover, though this only appears in his battle sprite.
In Minstrel Song, Wuhan received a completely new design. He sports a green king's cap with a golden feather on the front, a golden chestplate, a green jacket, grey pants, and black shoes.
Personality[edit]
Wuhan is shown to be quite a cowardly leadership figure, shown specifically when Jamil trashes his Haram and begs for forgiveness after being defeated in battle. Afterwards, he requests him to rescue his daughter from being used as a sacrifice, to which Jamil is not amused without raising the stakes, in which Wuhan shows a grudge against him for foiling his plans in the past. Nonetheless, he agrees, showing he cares very deeply about his daughter.
Story[edit]
Wuhan is first introduced in the Estamir Haram quest, as the central minor antagonist. The player first hears about Wuhan and his haram by invastigators who hire Jamil to shut the operation down, presumably sent by Wuhan's wife. The guards note how Farah is Wuhan's type of woman, drawing attention away from that note when they realise they're revealing information. He is met in person when Jamil crashes the haram and rescues Farah, which suprises him, setting him in a sudden battle. He is suprisingly weak, being possibly the weakest boss encounter in the game. After beating him in battle, the player has the option to kill Wuhan or let the whole situation slide, the latter giving access to a reward for the Water Dragon Rite quest and avoiding confrontation with the North Estamir guards.
After the Haram quest, Wuhan reappears again after sending investigators himself to give someone with guts a job. To Wuhan's own suprise, the one to accept this proposal is none other than Jamil himself, the one who crashed his Haram (same with the other characters). Nonetheless he decided to let his grudge against him aside, as his daughter has been set as a sacrifice to the Water Dragon, Strom. Jamil is suprised at the mere existence of Wuhan's daughter, especially due to the previous events that took place. Wuhan replies, ignoring the irony of the situation, asking for his help, as his daughter does mean alot to him. Jamil is not pleased, and asks for his payment, causing Wuhan to get mad at the thief's desire to swindle him, to which the cunning manipulator uses against him, implying that he will ignore the Potetante's request if not paid upfront. Finally, the deal is over, with Wuhan paying 1000 gold upfront. After the quest is complete, Wuhan rejoins with his daughter, at some point forgetting about the payment, to which the dealer he set reminds him of. Wuhan reluctantly pays him one final time, and Jamil is quickly kicked out of the Estamir castle, told to never step inside again.
In the ending credits, his daughter asks him if Jamil really defeated Saruin, to which her father confirms, noting that despite the trouble they've caused to him in the past, the hero and his companions have made the world a better place. Her daughter wonders what her father means by that, to which Wuhan replies telling her that it's best not to dwelve into the past, as a ruler must look into the future instead.
Trivia[edit]
- During the quest "Wuhan's Secret" you can kill Wuhan. Killing him will have consequences, as shown in this video.
- If you spare Wuhan and go on to unlock the "Water Dragon Rite" quest, it will be revealed that the sacrificial girl is Wuhan's daughter. Saving her will result in a bonus reward from Wuhan.
