1280 - To the Fossil Cave
To the Fossil Cave (1280) is the # 14th scenario on Wil Knights' side of the story in SaGa Frontier 2.
"A cave with a never before seen fossil of a giant creature is discovered in the Northern Continent. As a professional digger, Rich goes to explore the cave"
Timeline[edit]
Preceeded: Life Tree Island
Unlocks: To Cast a Rainbow
Objective[edit]
The adventure begins with Rich in the village of North Gate. Take the middle east path out of the village to the Fossil Caves and immediately head back again. Go to the Inn to find your old friends Eleanor and Raymond, who are willing to join your party. Also, talk to the other Inn patrons to recruit Diana to the party. Once you have recruited everyone and explored North Gate head out to the Fossil Cave proper.
Watch out for the Housekeeper enemy, while not particularly strong, they suddenly drop from the ceiling and usually end up fighting you. Also note that the skeleton piles contain either treasure or a skeleton enemy.
Take the top right exti to another screen before taking the far right path south. Keep following this path through various screens and dead-ends (usually with a skeleton treasure pile in) until you come to a large fossil of a spine leading up to a cave. Save and heal up before entering to face the Fossil Beast.
To start with you will need to dispatch the Fossil Beast's skeleton side-kicks. The Fossil Beast can use it's "Fossil Cry" skill to call more reinforcements, but the battle will be easier if you are only facing the Fossil Beast (as both skeletons can Stun and kill party members easily). As all 3 enemies are weak to Heat attacks, have someone like Eleanor cast an area spell such as "Firestorm" to makes things easier.
After defeating the Fossil Beast take the exit on the right and enter the lower cave which is now accessible due to the fossil spine breaking. Claim the 1000 Chips as a reward and leave the Fossil Caves behind.

Trivia[edit]
- The Fossil Beast has a 1:128 chance of dropping a pair of Titus Greaves with unlimited durability. Titus Greaves are the best footwear in the game, but usually come with a durability limit unlike most other armour pieces. Although the chances of getting a pair are slim you can save before the fight and perform a Quick Load (L1 + R1 + START + SELECT) if you do not get the Greaves after the fight and try again.
- This is the only playable appearance of Diana who goes on to become Rich's wife and mother to their daughter Ginny.
