So now that you have the basics covered you're probably wondering how to go about making a functional party. Worry not, you've come to the right place!

Combat Overview[edit]

Enemy Types[edit]

Enemies come with a host of their own resistances and strength, each correlating towards a specific damage type. The damage types are Slash, Blunt and Pierce for physical attacks and Heat, Cold, Lighting, Sun and Shadow for magic attacks. When fighting a boss you can check the Resistances table by tapping the boss's icon under Boss Details when preparing for a mission. It is important to raise many different characters in order to combat a specific weakness a boss may have!


Status Effects[edit]

Unlike other games in the genre, many bosses are susceptible to Status Effects. There are many instances of "cheesing" a particularly difficult boss through the use of Status Effects. Status effects resistances can be found in the same tool-tip as Resistances.

Stun Prevents movement for one turn. Stacks with INT but viability depends on AGI. Higher speed characters can utilize this much better. Displays the text 'Stun' when it is applied.
Paralysis Not to be confused with Stun. When afflicted with paralysis, the style or enemy cannot move for 4 turns. In addition, stars spin around the style or enemy’s head.
Darkness When affected, the style or enemy’s physical attacks have lowered accuracy. Icon shows a grey bar that grows and shortens.
Charm Style or enemies that have been charmed will hit his allies instead of enemies each turn. The affected unit will have a pink heart on top of his head.
Poison When poisoned, the style or enemy suffers damage each turn. The afflicted unit will reek of purple poison bubbles. Damage dealt is based on Max HP of the target.
Petrify When petrified, the style or enemy turns grey and will not move. Must be cured.
Sleep Cannot move while asleep. Wakes up when hit by an attack. The icon shows “zzz” marks.
Confuse Causes the affect style or enemy to perform random actions on his ally.
Berserk Strengthens the style or enemy’s Attack by 25% but will be unable to cast spells.


Debuffs and Buffs[edit]

Some enemies, particularly bosses, can hit extremely hard, often times needing to have their stats lowered to manageable levels. Debuffs target a specific stat and lower it, with the amount varying based on the text found in-game (specific modifiers can found below). It is important to note that debuffs can be stacked, from the same source as well as others.

  • Small Effect - 5%
  • Medium Effect - 10%
  • Large Effect - 15%

Conversely, there are also Buffs that you can give to your own units that boosts their stats to inflict more damage or bolster their defenses. The actual percentages for the buffs vary based on the in game description

  • (Regular) Effect - ~10% - 15%
  • Large Effect - ~20% - 25%


Party Creation[edit]

Roles[edit]

Re;univerSe has 5 distinct roles that dictate what a unit specializes in. In order to check what Style is what role, when inspecting a Style click Details for a description.

  • Attackers - These are your DPS units, responsible for one thing and one thing only: killing enemies before they kill you. While lacking in utility they are the strongest party members you can bring along. Sometimes, killing an enemy before it gets an attack off is the better strategy.
  • Jammers - Jammers can inflict debuffs as well as a multitude of status effects to make your life easier. Having trouble on a particular boss? Try paralyzing him for four turns to give yourself some breathing room. Jammers make up for their lack of firepower in utility.
  • Defenders - The 'tanks' of Re;univerSe, absorbing any damage that comes their way. As you unlock formations that give higher aggro towards a specific unit slot, defenders can be placed there to soak up damage intended for another party member. Often coming with passives (such as reduced damage or HP recovery), they are a staple for any team.
  • Support - While Jammers are mostly relegated to debuffs and status inflictions, Support units are responsible for keeping your party alive through healing or other buffs. They can also debuff enemies as well, but their attack is nowhere near Attackers or Jammers.
  • Mage - Mage's can attack, often as well as attackers, but also can provide additional utility such as healing depending on the equipped style. Some magic have the included benefit of status effects attached to them, allowing Mage's to utilize their high INT stat to inflict them.


Typing and Elements[edit]

Much like enemies, the Characters and Styles you have come equipped with their own innate resistances and weaknesses towards a particular weapon type or element. The weapon a character can equip often dictates what typing the Style attacks with, with the table below going into greater detail:

As you can see, different stats influence the damage dealt with different attack types. A Bow, for example, relies on DEX only, STR is irrelevant. Meanwhile Martial Arts relies on both STR and AGI. Make sure you have the necessary stat leveled to maximize damage with the equipped weapon!

Formations[edit]

Formations can help you influence turn order, aggro towards a specific unit and many other things. They are unlocked as you progress the game. An example of two different formations are

  • Speculation - A quick-strike formation that boosts the front line's STR and AGI, while granting the lead character a higher chance to be targeted by enemies.
  • Seer's Focus - A magic based formation that boosts the WIL of the entire party, shielding them from magic attacks, while also increasing the INT of the first member by 50%.

Skill Inheritance[edit]

While there is a whole page on Skills already, Skill Inheritance is an important part of any team-building and can be spoken about in-depth. Styles that share the same base Character can inherit any skill from the pool. For example, SS Azami can inherit Submission from her S-tier variant (which can debuff STR!) or Ki-Blast from her A variant for a low BP, spammable skill.

Skill Inheritance can greatly alter a Style's usefulness, with some future units relying on skills older Styles have. Want to turn your current S Undine into an off-healer? Level up her A style and grasp Water of Life. This system thrives on the player trying to level up and grasp as many skills as possible to make your party as flexible as can be.
