Emperor Gerard seeks revenge against one of the seven heroes, Kujinshi, for the deaths of his father and brother. If you ask me, Kujinshi did him a favor, Gerard really sucked before Leon died and the inheritance magic took effect.
This is a surprisingly easy boss fight. The climb up to Kujinshi's room was probably more difficult than the fight itself if you've been grinding a bit in the previous dungeons and your battle rank has increased somewhat.
