The salamanders all come with a high STR, high CON, and bludgeon + martial arts skills. They heal with fire magic ambience. They also come with the Red Heat Scalemail, which makes them effectively immune to fire damage as well. This means that when you need to take on someone like Wagnas or pre-Rocbouquet Noel, you'll have at least one character who is immune to all the fire based attacks they throw out.

During the second Komulune volcano scenerio, you have a choice between saving them, or obtaining dark magic.

They are all named after volcanoes (and while Querute's name seems misspelled, the official artwork will show you she is most assuredly, not).
